Choose the apps and categories to block. They grey out when the session starts and come back when it ends, using Apple’s Family Controls. The tuner, metronome and recorder stay open.
Precision Tuner
Strobe, round, chromatic and string faces from C0 to C8. Adjustable A4 reference, transposition, custom temperaments and string presets.
Metronome and Pulse Lab
Sample-accurate click with subdivisions, accent maps, polyrhythms and tempo ramps. The Timing Lab scores every onset against the click and tells you what to fix.
Tone Studio
Drones, chords and reference pitches from a wheel, keyboard or grid, with eight timbres and Core MIDI input. Guided long-tone, interval and matching exercises.
Sound Lab
Live waveform, spectrum, harmonic, staff and interval views from one microphone session, so you can see what you hear.
Recording
Audio and video takes with slow-down, pitch shift, looping and trim. Organize into collections and export when a take is worth keeping.
Structured Sessions
Build multi-block routines with auto-advancing timers and rests. Warm-up, scales, repertoire. Save them as presets for one-tap starts.
History, Goals and Streaks
Every session is logged with its instrument and blocks. Daily goals, current and longest streaks, weekly summaries and CSV export.
Live Activity Timer
The countdown lives on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, so you never unlock the phone to check the time.

Finish a session and share a card with your minutes, milestones and shield status. Generate a practice report for any date range for your teacher.

PracticeMode started as a personal problem. Every time a practice session began, the phone became a distraction, and nothing on the market solved it the right way. So we built it: first the shield, then the tuner, metronome, tone studio and recorder that a musician needs in the same room.
The founder spent years in enterprise software at a Fortune 100 company before leaving to build Rock Town Distillery, Arkansas’ first legal distillery since Prohibition. That combination shapes how we build: the discipline of enterprise engineering and the urgency of a small business that has to work. The app is 134,000 lines of Swift, uses only Apple frameworks, and ships behind 2,850 automated tests.
